Manchester City Avoid Transfer Ban But Get Huge FIFA Fine…
Manchester City have been handed a major fine by FIFA for breaches related to the international transfer and registration of players under the age of 18.
The club have been forced to pay 370,000 Swiss Francs, which works out at around £315,000.
But, City managed to avoid a blanket transfer ban, which Premier League rivals Chelsea were hit with earlier this year.
Man City have already accepted responsibility for its involvement in the claims, which ultimately entered into FIFA’s mind when it came to a decision.
Protecting youngsters is a key part of FIFA’s regulatory framework, and enforcing the rules around their transfer and registration is crucial, said the football governing body.
A statement from FIFA read: “The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has sanctioned English club Manchester City FC for breaches relating to the international transfer and registration of players under the age of 18.
“Manchester City FC was found to have breached, amongst others, article 19 of the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players.
“The Disciplinary Committee took into account the fact that Manchester City FC accepted its responsibility and sanctioned the club with a fine of CHF 370,000.
“The protection of minors is a key element in FIFA’s overall regulatory framework relating to the transfer of players, and the effective enforcement of these rules is paramount, as has also been confirmed on various occasions by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
“The decision issued by the Disciplinary Committee was notified today.”
Chelsea were issued a 12-month transfer ban by FIFA for breaking a similar rule, but City appear to have avoided the sanction.
The Stamford Bridge hierarchy were also given a £512,000 fine, as opposed to City’s £315,000.
The Blues couldn’t sign any new players this summer. They’ll also have to avoid dipping into the transfer market in January.
